Public Debate

"Indigenous Peoples-led movements, youth movements, human rights movements, gender activism, and climate litigation, which is raising awareness and, in some cases, has influenced the outcome and ambition of climate governance" (Summary of the 6th IPCC report)

Challenges

It's a risky bet to assume that companies will voluntarily commit to environmental transition, without regulation nor internal or external pressure.

Actors for change, such as trade unions, Business and Social Councils, environmental NGOs, the media and politicians, put an indispensable pressure on the economic and political fabric. Their action is essential to get the private sector to transform its business model and bring about a society compatible with planetary limits.

However, these actors sometimes face major obstacles, such as lack of resources and difficult access to quality technical expertise. To achieve a world compatible with the Paris Agreement, it is vital to strengthen these forces of change to help rebalance the power relations with the economic forces.
