3 Reasons to Measure Your Carbon Footprint

Would you like to measure your company's carbon footprint?

The Carbone 4 Academy offers you a framework for decarbonizing your organization.

A snapshot of greenhouse gas emissions over the course of a year, measuring one’s carbon footprint is the starting point for the climate strategy of a company, and here are three reasons to measure it:

Minimize its impact

A company’s performance has always been evaluated based on its profitability. The primary measure is a company’s ability to generate a surplus after all its expenses have been fully paid.

Profits in euros are therefore central to an organization’s strategy. Accounting for greenhouse gas emissions, in turn, makes it possible to assess, from a climate perspective, a company’s contribution to carbon neutrality.

It is also a way to launch a movement to reduce one’s impact on climate change by quantifying, in concrete terms, the steps needed to achieve a specific goal.

By analyzing its entire supply chain, an organization can focus its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on the feasibility and timeframe of its actions.

Minimizing Risks

From a medium-term perspective, addressing climate issues is becoming central to a company’s strategic planning.

The more an organization relies on energy resources that are subject to price fluctuations and supply disruptions, the more it will need to take this significant exposure into account when assessing the risks it faces.

Depending on the type of infrastructure on which its operations rely, a company will also need to anticipate the impact of potential climate-related risks on its business model.

By addressing these issues early on, the company will have the opportunity to reduce its exposure—or simply to anticipate the possible occurrence of climate-related events—and thus adjust its strategy to ensure business continuity.

The organization must meet the expectations of both investors and regulators regarding digital transformation.

Bringing Teams Together

In a highly competitive job market, and with widespread public awareness of the reality of climate change and its impact on our daily lives, many citizens are calling for change within their organizations.

In addition to individual efforts, which should be encouraged, the company can effectively meet the existing expectations of its employees by taking action on climate issues.

By demonstrating determination in its actions, a company will show its commitment to issues that matter to the general public and unite its employees around a broader low-carbon strategy.
