ABC Arbitrage is a publicly traded financial group that develops quantitative and systematic strategies in major global markets.
Since the Group falls below the regulatory thresholds, it is not subject to reporting requirements; however, it had already conducted its first carbon footprint assessment in 2021. That initial assessment highlighted the challenge of ensuring that all of the Group’s emission sources had been properly accounted for.
In 2022, the Group therefore engaged Carbone 4 with several objectives in mind:
- improve the reliability of its footprint with technical expertise capable of questioning its own findings
- to have a tool so that he can run it on his own every year
- maintain occasional support in case of difficulty
The footprint calculated using Carbone 4 covers emissions related to the Group's operations (energy, procurement, fixed assets, travel, waste) across its three offices and all of its data centers. Emissions related to capital expenditures—which the Group now calculates on its own—are the subject of a separate analysis.
1. Calculating the 2022 Carbon Footprint
Carbone 4 proposed an approach designed to enable the Group to calculate its carbon footprint independently. The teams at ABC Arbitrage filled out the data collection spreadsheets in Excel themselves (energy consumption, purchases, travel, IT equipment), with support from Carbone 4 experts.
After a consistency review, The carbon footprint results were presented in a Power BI dashboard with several views : by position, by location, and by employee.
The Group’s trading operations rely on computing servers hosted in data centers abroad. Given its significance, Carbone 4 has paid particular attention to the carbon footprint of the Group’s digital equipment.
2. Three years of in-house calculations
ABC Arbitrage then recalculated its carbon footprint every year using the same tool based on data collected by the coordinators from the various departments, which made it possible to track progress. Carbone 4 continued to support the teams throughout this period.
3. Migrating to the new version of the tool
In 2025, to integrate The latest emission factors and methodological advances, the Group upgraded to the new version of the Carbone 4 tool; as a result, the Group now has a reliable historical record.
A self-directed, long-term approach
Thanks to the tool, the Group calculates its carbon footprint every year on its own. He turns to Carbone 4 only when he needs to: to resolve a sticking point or incorporate methodological changes.
A carbon culture shared by the teams
Through the annual calculation of their carbon footprint, employees have gained a sense of the scale involved. These benchmarks are now fueling internal discussions and reflections. For example, tracking data over several years provides the perspective and data needed to develop a climate plan on a solid foundation. Finally, the Group voluntarily publishes its results in its annual report, contributing to the sharing of experiences and discussions on practices for measuring and reducing emissions.
