What are the major challenges facing the construction industry in the face of climate change?

Interview with Natan Leverrier, Louise Badoche

The construction sector accounts for approximately 30% of France's greenhouse gas emissions and is the second-largest emitter after the transportation sector.

Essential to the proper functioning of our societies and our economy, the construction sector also has a major role to play in the transition to a low-carbon world.

The main sources of emissions from buildings stem from energy consumption and emissions associated with the construction materials required for both residential and commercial buildings, whether for new construction or renovation. Consequently, efforts to decarbonize the sector involve reducing and decarbonizing buildings’ energy consumption, decarbonizing construction materials and products, and promoting energy-efficient use.

• What role should the sector play in combating climate change?
• What sector-specific regulations are in place to achieve national decarbonization goals, and how should the building stock evolve to meet these goals?
• How can and should the various stakeholders in the sector reduce their greenhouse gas emissions?
• What are the other environmental challenges facing the sector?

These are the questions we’ll be discussing in this episode with Natan Leverrier, a manager at Carbone 4 in the Construction & Real Estate division.
